Softball beat J.F. Webb 4-3 to make it to the third round of playoffs Saturday. They go on to play Corinth Holders High School in the fourth round Tuesday.
“[Corinth Holders] is ranked a little higher than J.F. Webb was, but they’ve also lost a lot of games,” senior Kayli Blankenship said. “They’ve been really close, so we’re kind of comparing them to J.F. Webb. It should be a really good game, but hopefully we’ll still be able to come out on top.”
Saturday’s game ended in the 11th inning after junior Carson Shaner hit a homerun for the win.
“It was tied 0-0 mostly the whole game, and [J.F. Webb] scored three runs in the sixth inning and McKenzie Allgood came up and hit a three-run homer and tied it up,” Shaner said. “Then the game went on and on and on… and I came up and hit a homerun over the left-field fence. It was a walk-off home run, so we won the game.”
Blankenship is optimistic about the team’s performance in later playoff games.
“I think [the win] gave us the push to keep going,” Blankenship said. “We know we have a team that can keep fighting no matter what’s going on.”
Allgood, a senior, is excited for the fourth round of playoffs for more than one reason.
“[The J.F. Webb game] would have been the seniors’ last game, so it was super exciting to find out we could keep going,” Allgood said.
Blankenship hopes the team keeps going.
‘This has been a really good season,” Blankenship said. “It’s our last season all playing together, so hopefully we go all the way this year.”
