London Fashion Week 2020: What you need to know

London Fashion Week is a big deal for A-list celebrities and wannabe fashionistas. It only happens twice each year: once in February and once in September. This year’s February fashion week, which ran from Feb. 14 to Feb. 18, was packed with numerous shows and displays of street fashion.

People

There were lots of familiar faces in the shows’ audiences, including Dove Cameron, Olivia Holt, Cameron Dallas, Kelsea Ballerini, Michael B. Jordan and more popular celebrities. And then there were the models. Some of the biggest models to walk the London catwalk this year include Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech, Fran Summers, Cynthia Arrebola and a surprise performance by Lena Dunham who is a writer as well as an actress.

Designers

There were over 200 designers whose shows were featured during the five days of London Fashion Week. Some of the more well known creators include Vivienne Westwood, Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry, Christopher Kane and Victoria Beckham. Not only were there classic brands represented, but there were lots of emerging designers as well, like Nensi Dojaka and WED. A new designer who is pushing the boundaries in order to push fashion into a new direction is Richard Quinn. Quinn’s pieces showcased his highly diverse style through his multitude of colors, prints, fabrics, and forms.

Unique Features

February’s fashion week showed off a lot of unique ideas ranging from animals in fashion to edible accessories. In Rixo’s show a silver greyhound walked alongside one of the models and a white cat was held in a model’s arms during the Dilara Findikoglu show. One of the more interesting headpieces featured during this week was a Cheeto crown presented during Fashion East’s show.

Trends to Expect

When shopping this autumn there will most likely be many trends taken from the highlights of London Fashion Week on sale at popular department stores. Some things to expect are bright red pieces, baby pinks in shiny materials, cutouts and off-the-shoulder tops.

The conclusion of London Fashion Week brings the next round of annual fashion extravaganzas, including Milan Fashion Week Feb. 18 through  Feb. 24, and Paris Fashion Week Feb. 24 to March 3.
