Hurricane season has begun and in store for this year is the threat of back-to-back hurricanes. Two storms, Marco and Laura, came up from the Gulf of Mexico. They were predicted to target the Louisiana and Texas coasts. Marco made landfall on Monday evening, but Laura won’t hit the coast until Thursday. Both storms began in the Caribbean causing nine known casualties already and half a million people have been ordered to evacuate from the Louisiana and Texas regions.
Marco was downgraded to a tropical storm with the absence of tornado threats on Monday evening. However, the threat of Laura is still very real to a large portion of the US. Laura has already become a category three hurricane, with the potential to become a category four before its predicted landfall early Thursday morning in Louisiana. Laura is expected to cause heavy rainfall and strong winds beginning on the Southern coast and finishing in the North East just past Delaware in the Atlantic on Saturday. *
For North Carolina the effects of Marco will not be felt in the East as the storm moved northward from the Louisiana coast. However, Hurricane Laura will bring heavy rain and wind over the weekend. So if you go out this weekend make sure to bring your mask and your umbrella!
