With the election coming up Nov. 3, many people are asking: Who’s on the ballot? Here’s the who’s who in the 2020 elections.
Presidential Election
Joe Biden is the Democratic candidate for the presidency. His running mate is Senator Kamala Harris from California. Biden used to be the vice-president under President Barack Obama. His main policies are helping working families recover economically, improving racial equity and improving American manufacturing strength.
Donald Trump is the incumbent president and is a part of the Republican Party. His running mate is the current Vice-President Mike Pence. Trump is running on the policies of strengthening border security, removing safety and business regulations and helping America’s veterans.
North Carolina Senatorial Race
Thom Tillis is the Republican candidate for the U.S. senatorial race. He is currently the incumbent candidate and has held the office for five years. Tillis is currently running on supporting the 700 billion dollar Paycheck Protection Program, which is an unusual position for a Republican, as they are normally opposed to bailout programs. He is also running on holding China accountable for its responsibility for spreading the Coronavirus.
Cal Cunningham is running for the position of U.S. Senator as a Democrat. He comes from the Democratic Party. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He supports improving access and quality of healthcare in America, fighting income inequality and improving education in North Carolina.
National House of Representatives: 4th District
David Price is the incumbent representative and is a member of the Democratic Party. He has worked as a representative for 31 years. His district represents Raleigh, Apex and Chapel Hill as well as the eastern part of Chatham County. He supports funding education, fighting gun violence, and promoting affordable housing.
Robert Thomas is the Republican candidate for the 4th District. He previously worked as an attorney and real estate appraiser. He supports the building of a wall on the Mexican border, protecting the Second Amendment and attacking the opioid epidemic in the United States.
North Carolina Gubernatorial Race
Roy Cooper is the incumbent governor of North Carolina. He is running as a Democrat. Before becoming Governor, he was the North Carolina Attorney General for 16 years . He supports increasing funding for education, improving access to broadband internet and investing in rural communities and businesses
Dan Forest is the lieutenant governor of North Carolina. He is a republican. He worked as an architect before becoming a politician. He believes that the Coronavirus lockdowns are harmful to the economy and that the state needs to invest in apprenticeship programs. His platform includes making sure that local police agencies cooperate with ICE and allowing parents the freedom to choose their children’s schools.
