On Monday Jan. 25, the Northwood Girl’s Basketball Team played against Chapel Hill High School at Northwood. Due to COVID guidelines, the crowd was not as big as it has been in past years. Only parents were allowed to attend and watch the game. Scores for both teams were low during the first quarter but went up at the beginning of the second quarter. Chapel Hill scored five points going into halftime. Throughout the game, Tekeyah Bland, a Northwood senior, scored 15 points and 12 rebounds. Teammate McKenna Snively, a Northwood junior scored 14 points. Throughout the second half of the game, Northwood held the lead and ended up winning the game 48-36. This win made the NHS Girl’s Basketball Team conference champions for the second year in a row.
“To win back-to-back conference championships is very special and hard to do,” said the NHS Girl’s Basketball coach Cameron Vernon. “I am super proud and happy for the girls for this accomplishment. We have a young team with only three seniors and the future is looking very bright.”
The team currently stands at six wins to zero losses with half of the season left to go.
