“Happily Ever After,” Third Poem Highlighted In Omniscient And NEHS Partnership

In this series published by The Northwood Omniscient, works of writing by Northwood’s National English Honor Society will be highlighted. The third of these pieces to be highlighted is written by Northwood student Simar Kaur.

 “Happily Ever After

It started with butterflies

Two souls connected by a single word

She thought you healed her

When you only broke her more

She blossomed into who you wanted her to be

Blurring who she really was

Now her heartbreak aches to go away

Lost herself next to you

Empty hearts full of love

Glass broken beneath their feet

How do you fix what was never meant to be?

The smiles soon turn rotten

Like they always do

As soon as she turned her back

You got the sword ready to stab

Staring into the hollows of your eyes

Smelling your cinnamon breath

A pit in her stomach

The butterflies are now dead

Tired of holding onto what was never there

Living the fairytale

That never really existed

Turns out happily ever after

Doesn’t last forever
