Godzilla vs. Kong

As more of the country receives their vaccines of Moderna, Pfizer or J&J, more public spaces have begun to open up to full capacity. Places that require close contact with others are back in business, one of those being movie theaters.

Godzilla vs. Kong was released on March 31. In the three weeks since, it has made over $80,000,000–the most for any movie released during the pandemic. Warner Bros., the Hollywood-based film production company, has been on a roll during COVID, with four of their movies in the top five highest grossing films during this period.

$70,000,000 was spent on promoting the latest installment of the Godzilla franchise, and the numbers keep climbing for the film. With a projected profit of $96,400,000 and the positive reviews rolling in, the hype over the film shows little sign of dying down. Freshman Evelyn Atkins shared her thoughts on whether the excitement was deserved or not.

“I enjoyed it, and the fight scenes were really good…The story was a little confusing, and the ending was not good,” Atkins said.

Fans of the Netflix hit Stranger Things will recognize Millie Bobby Brown, appearing as Madison Russell in the film. Other cast members include Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, Kyle Chandler and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. If you want to see any of these actors perform, or just really like to watch big monsters fighting, this may be the movie for you.

While Godzilla vs. Kong may not be airing by the time you get your vaccine, there are still several movies planned to release in theaters this summer, including A Quiet Place Part II, Fast & Furious 9, Black Widow, Space Jam: A New Legacy and In the Heights.
If you are unable to go to theaters, Godzilla vs. Kong is available to stream on HBO Max.Other options on the service include Blade Runner 2049, Crazy Rich Asians and Ready Player One.
