Along with celebrating on Oct. 31, the Northwood Omniscient got in the Halloween spirit this year and dressed up in a fun costume of their choice!

Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I was very excited to celebrate this year. I dressed up as Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas because I love claymation films, even though they can freak me out sometimes. I had matching costumes with Staff Writer Lex Mansour who dressed up as Jack from the movie. I was surprised by how well my costume came together, especially because it was all so last minute. I took some of my own clothes and older sister’s clothes and made everything mismatched, while borrowing Lex’s makeup and his super cool vest. We went trick-or-treating in Briar Chapel which was so much fun; I probably had 10 pounds of candy by the end of the night.

“I got together with some friends and we had a potluck dinner. We also played some games; it was great. I dressed up as a cat, but I couldn’t find my cat ears, so I was an earless cat. I did get some eyeliner and made a little nose and some whiskers. My friend gave me a unicorn hat to wear too, so I guess I was sort of a unicorn-cat mix. We spent Halloween at my friend’s house and she had a lot of trick-or-treaters, so we got to see what all of the little kids were wearing, and they were really cute. Someone made a pumpkin roll that was really good.” -Advisor Eliza Brinkley

“I dressed up as Neo from The Matrix, and it took me two minutes to make. I wasn’t originally planning on going out for Halloween because I was sick, and then ultimately I was like, ‘okay, I’ll go!” A person handing out candy handed out free hot cocoa and hot dogs; it was very weird to me. My friends and I watched a really bad movie; it was SUPPOSED to be a horror movie, but we watched Children of the Corn. It was extremely boring but funny. In a bad way.” -Staff Writer Liam Sovereign

“I was a Salem witch for Halloween. I went out with my friends Rori, Ross and Bella, and we reverse trick-or-treated which means we gave out candy to kids while walking around in costume. Ross and Rori were Chucky and Chucky’s Bride, while Bella was Lady Bird. I love Halloween–I had a lot of fun. Although my highlight of the night was probably going home and getting in bed; I was so tired.” -Staff Writer Ivy Latta Brock

“I very much had a 15-minute-before costume, and I wanted to wear my homecoming dress again, so I dressed up as Cupid. I had my little heart sunglasses, hearts in my hair and a red lip and called it a day. Originally I was trying to go to a party, but it didn’t end up working out, and I texted Assistant Editor-in-Chief Lily Kate Witcher, actually. She ended up coming to my house and we passed out candy and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rocky Horror was really confusing, but it was good. I would recommend it, it was just that Lily Kate and I had to pull up the movie synopsis to figure out what was going on. It was an experience. There were also so many cute little kids we passed candy out to, and we rated costumes we saw throughout the night.” -Staff Writer Alessia Iacono

“I was a crab. I made a crab crown and claws out of paper. It was brilliant; everyone loved it. From 5-8, I handed out candy to trick-or-treaters, which was fun because I would ‘guess’ their costume and for everyone I would ask them if they were Goku, even though they were clearly not dressed as Goku. I thought it was very funny, but my brother did not think it was funny at all. My mother didn’t even understand what was going on; she thought I was speaking gibberish. Then I went to Noah Vick’s little soirée, made my three passes around the room and made my Irish exit. I had a Jersey Mike’s sandwich there which was great. I think Jackson Ferri ate six sandwiches. I have never seen a man consume so much in so little time. I went home around 11-ish. I watched the 1978 Halloween movie with my brother, I really enjoy that one. Staff Writer Liam Sovereign, in a vicious display of malicious intent, ripped my crab crown. I watched him cackle evilly to himself after the act.” -Graphic Editor Ethan Westmoreland

“I had a wonderful Halloween. My costume was very last minute; I used stuff I had at home to dress up as a black cat. I went to Staff Writer Alessia Iacono’s house, and we gave out candy to the kids in her neighborhood. We saw some very fun costumes; my favorite was these kids who dressed up as Fast and Furious characters, but they were dressed up as the cars. We also watched Rocky Horror Picture Show… a very interesting film.” -Lily Kate Witcher

“I wore an Ariel onesie I had since seventh grade, and all of my friends we wore animal or Disney onesies. We stayed in and watched movies, and then we just took a evening walk. We took one of my friend’s little brothers trick-or-treating, and he dressed up as The Flash. Personally I don’t like Halloween, but it was still a really nice evening. We also got to stay warm because of our onesies.” -Editor-In-Chief Grace Leonard

“My parents handled the trick-or-treaters, and they said we had about 60 trick-or-treaters which is less than normal. I dressed up as Nozomi from Love Live. There was no highlight of the night, but I did scrape fake blood out of the blinds at work. I am a little disappointed about the fact that there were so few trick-or-treaters this year.”

“I had a blast. I was wearing Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I had a striped suit with face paint to match Jack Skellington’s face. Me and Social Media Editor Nellie Errett threw this costume together within the last hour and a half before we started going out. We pulled it together really well I think. Nellie was Sally from the movie. We went trick-or-treating around Briar Chapel and just had a good time. My highlight of the night was dancing and taking pictures in the street after taking, realistically, a good 15 handfuls of candy from the same house each. We have a video to back that up.” -Lex Mansour
