Modern technology has blessed us with streaming media services. These services can allow us to watch TV shows and movies that we may have missed on cable. Some of these services include Netflix, Hulu and Disney Plus. The Omniscient asked Northwood students which services are their favorites and why they like watching them.
“I mostly use Youtube and Netflix,” sophomore Violet Poole said. “I like the variety and the amount of content. I watch popular shows like “Squid Game” and “Stranger Things.”
A streaming source that isn’t well-known is Crunchy Roll, which fans of Anime and drama are especially drawn to.
An anonymous student does enjoy watching Crunchy Roll. They say that they would use other streaming services, but individually, the price-ups add up, and they become too expensive.
“Mostly I use Netflix,” junior Tess Addeo, who watches a lot of romance and action movies, said. “I like [services where] you can get free trials, yet when you have to pay, then no… I find everything I like on Netflix.”
“Mostly I use Netflix, and Disney Plus whenever it goes on sale,” sophomore Lindsey Smith said. “Netflix has a pretty wide variety. I really like the movie ‘The Call’.”
Smith mainly sticks to the horror genre. She says she likes it because horror movies can be ridiculous and humorous movies to enjoy.
“I use Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney Plus,” sophomore Elaine Daniels said. “…It’s all I really do. I also enjoy the variety they have [but] I would like to try something else”.
Because many of these streaming services’ fees add up, having many of them isn’t much of a viable option. As a result, some students have to just stick with one or two different shows. As for other services, some may not even work with the internet.
“I use Netflix and Hulu”, junior Sonya Fleming said. “I like the variety of TV shows and movies. One of my favorite shows is a superhero and has a lot of representation in it. I would choose another service if it was free.”
