Northwood Chargers Women’s basketball team celebrates their victory over the Western Alamance Warriors on Senior night, the score ending in 72-64.
The Women’s Basketball team recognized their graduating class on senior night prior to the game. This year’s team has two seniors, Tekeyah Bland and Sarah Barbour.
Senior Tekeyah Bland, at the free-throw line, played a major role in the game.
Northwood basketball charged to a home victory over Western Alamance in conference play on Northwood’s Senior night, 63-26.
The Chargers great rebounding and interior defense led to a dominating performance. The team ended in 31 total rebounds, with junior Jake Leighton and senior Kenan Parrish creating 11 of those.
The Chargers led the Warriors 35-8 at the half with a great defensive presence, forcing Western Alamance into tough shots.
The halftime show had students participate in a game, the Chargers student section filled the stands showing major support.
With the win, the Chargers moved to 12-0 in the conference with a 21-2 overall record.
Since the Charger’s senior night, the Northwood Chargers have gone on to win their conference for men’s and women’s teams. The men’s team defeated Person County 76-36. The women’s team defeated Western Alamance 61-49 in a complete performance from Tekeyah Bland and Skylar Adams combining for a total of 41 points.
The women’s team was eliminated from the playoffs with a loss to Western Alamance.
The men’s team continues to advance through playoffs and plays Franklinton tonight.
UPDATED 3/1/2023: The Chargers men’s basketball team defeated Franklinton 59-49 on Tuesday night. The Chargers now advance to the next round of the playoffs and will face E.E. Smith on Saturday at 4 p.m.
