The Northwood High School Travel Club will travel to Iceland in July 2024. Travelers will visit both the North and South end of Iceland, including the well-known Reykjavik. From exciting whale-watching to relaxing hot springs, students can interact with their surroundings and gain a new perspective.
“When the kids come back [from Iceland], they’re going to have a new sense of identity and independence,” Athletic Director Cameron Vernon and founder of the Northwood Travel Club said. “They’ll feel more alive.”
Over the eight-day trip, those attending will visit museums, learn from multiple tour guides about the culture and history of Iceland, and indulge in plenty of country’s favorite foods and services. These activities pique the interests of participating Northwood students.
“I thought it would be fun to go with people and go somewhere cool.” Junior and participant Elijah Farrow said.
The trip hosted by EF Educational Tours (EF Tours), which has been running for over fifty-five years, focuses strongly on what EF Tours calls growth, global perspective, personal development, and impact (G2PA). Mrs. Scully, a past teacher who formally taught at Northwood, had used this agency before and inspired Coach Vernon to do the same.
Students voyaging can host a fundraiser through EF Tours. Families and friends of students can donate to this fundraiser to fund their trip, very similar to a GoFundMe page. If a student completes a chore, for example, mowing the lawn or walking a neighbor’s dog, instead of being paid directly, they can ask for the payment to go straight to their fundraising page.
All in all, this trip is looking to be a great excursion to a wonderful place with wonderful people!
