Fall Sports Wrap Up

Boys football ended 8-4 in the regular season, and 4-3 in conference. They were eliminated in the first round of playoffs by Eastern Alamance, 56-21. As a team, the Chargers broke many school records in almost every offensive category.

Junior quarterback Ti Pinnix set school records for passing yards, pass completions and pass attempts.  Junior wide receiver Jalen Smith broke all season records and career records in one year.

“Football season created a whole new family for me and it’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world,” junior John Atwater said.

Girls volleyball ended the season with a record of 4-13. Alexa Bernard was named All-Conference, for having ten kills in one game of a three-game match.

“It was an awesome season, one of the best seasons as far as the quality and caliber girls we had to work with,” said volleyball coach Lynn Smith. “Everyone wanted to make their game better, worked harder to make their game better and it was just an awesome group of girls.”

Bernard agrees with Coach Smith.

“We really learned how to work together to win games and I’m so glad I got to play with some of my best friends,” Bernard said.

Cross Country ended with a winning record, the boys had a season of 7-5, and the girls were 7-6. The girls ended third in conference and the boys ended fourth. The girls were 12th in the state, and the boys were eighth in regionals.

“We did surprisingly well, being our first year at 3A,” said cross country coach Richard McDonald.” “Lots of young kids came through this year, and we were led by Erin Nelson with the girls, and Rob Hamlet with the boys. They both did a great job and were good senior leaders.”

Girls tennis ended the season with a final record of 6-8. They tied for 4th in the conference, but did not make playoffs this year. Senior Hannah Holloway was the number one seed this year and qualified for regionals in individual play. Her final record for singles was 10-4, and she was named All-Conference.

“It got a lot tougher moving to 3A. We held our own, finished in the middle and it’s going to take a lot of hard work to get to the top but we have the potential to do it if we work in the off season and try to improve everyone’s game,” varsity tennis coach Joseph Kiertekles said.

Holloway is the leading teammate and helps the team to be successful.

“We had a great season this year for having moved up to 3A, I was extremely proud of our record,” Holloway said. “A special thanks to coach K, he is an unbelievable tennis player and we were so lucky to have him!”
